Has an undergraduate degree in forestry from the Chapingo Autonomous University in Mexico, and Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in forest management from Colorado State University in the USA. He has been teaching and doing research in natural resources management, sustainability and Geographic Information Science and Technology for the past 22 years. He is currently Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences University of Colorado Denver, USA.
